Sure Signal heat-activated fire alarms are being recalled because they may fail to work when a fire is present, putting consumers in danger. According to a recall notice posted on the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) website, the problems is that “A defective fusible link sensor (fuse) on the fire alarm can cause the alarm to fail to alert consumers of a fire.” Consumers are urged to replace the recalled products immediately by contacting Sure Signal Products. The recall affects about 375,000 units sold under the following brand names and models: DeTech FST2004H, MasterGuard QR50, Responsive TR70-R and Thermalink QR50. The fire alarms were manufactured by Sure Signal Products, Inc., of Garden Grove, CA between January 1, 2004 through July 1, 2015. Dates codes, which are arranged in a YYDDD format, range from 04001 through 15182.
The recalled alarms are white, round and approximately 7 inches in diameter. At the center, there is a round white or chrome fuse about 1.5 inches in diameter with a temperature rating of 117 degrees Fahrenheit to 136 degrees Fahrenheit. The price of the alarms ranges between $300 and $375.
